The Value of Mesotherapy for Muscle Soreness and Restriction

Discovering effective treatment options is crucial in equine care. One promising method is mesotherapy, known for addressing muscle soreness and restriction. But what is mesotherapy, and how can it help your horse?

Mesotherapy targets sore muscles for instant relief
Mesotherapy targets sore muscles for instant relief

Mesotherapy involves injecting small amounts of muscle relaxers and analgesic directly into the affected area. This process helps promote healing, lessen pain, and improve muscle function. This treatment is especially useful for horses with chronic muscle problems or those recovering from injuries.

A paper published in the proceedings of the 2020 AAEP recommends treating back pain in horses, like we do in humans, involving two key steps: 1) interrupting the pain cycle and 2) improving back muscle strength and function. This paper discusses various methods for achieving these goals. Horses that received mesotherapy reported significant relief from muscle soreness within a week of treatment. If you want your horse to feel happier and more agile, consider mesotherapy as a viable therapy option.

Horse Training and Riding Lessons with Andria

Exciting new opportunities await at our facility with full care horse training and haul in riding lessons led by Andria! Starting April 1, 2025, she will offer full care training and riding lessons designed to enhance your riding skills while prioritizing your horse’s health.

A unique aspect of Andria's training program is the inclusion of sportsmassage and bodywork, which releases the muscular tension of the horse during training sessions. Andria also offers riding lessons for outside horses, where she delves into the biomechanics of both horse and rider, creating a strong connection based on synergy and understanding. This personalized experience not only enhances riding techniques but also strengthens the bond between you and your equine partner.

Andria is known for peeling back the layers of your horse's behavior, finding the holes in their training, and finding a comprehensive solution. If you’re ready to take part in this comprehensive training program, call us for details and secure your spot! 541-636-1191

Recognizing and Responding to Bird Flu Symptoms in Pets

Bird flu, or highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), can affect cats and dogs. Symptoms include fever, lethargy, and respiratory distress.

  • Fever of 100°F (37.8°C) or higher

  • Lethargy

  • Low appetite

Risk factors include eating raw or unpasteurized foods and contact with wild birds or poultry.

When to seek care: If your pet shows any symptoms, seek veterinary care, especially if they've eaten raw or unpasteurized foods or been in contact with wild birds or poultry.

The current HPAI version in the U.S. is H5N1 bird flu, mainly affecting wild migratory water birds and domestic poultry. https://www.avma.org/resources-tools/animal-health-and-welfare/animal-health/avian-influenza/avian-influenza-companion-animals
